A visit to the Captain Lance P. Sijan Memorial in Wisconsin on 19 August 2018, from the F-4 Phantom II gate guardian and memorial plaza with its American and POW/MIA flags to a replica of the headstone the North Vietnamese Army placed at his gravesite, and wildflowers beside the path. The Milwaukee native and Air Force Academy graduate was shot down over Laos in 1967, evaded capture for six weeks despite severe injuries, and died in captivity in 1968, becoming the first Academy graduate awarded the Medal of Honor.
