A memorial plaque and mounted F-4C Phantom II honor Captain Lance P. Sijan near Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport, his hometown. Sijan, a forward air controller shot down over Laos in 1967, evaded capture for over a month despite grievous injuries and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism as a prisoner of war.
