This bronze plaque preserves the Medal of Honor citation of Captain Lance P. Sijan, USAF, who evaded capture for six weeks after ejecting over North Vietnam in 1967, endured torture as a prisoner of war, and died in captivity in January 1968. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1976 by President Gerald Ford, and remains one of the most revered heroes of the Vietnam War and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Project: 218972
