Lieutenant Colonel William A. Jones III flew A-1 Skyraider Search and Rescue escort missions over North Vietnam and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during a September 1968 mission, continuing to fly and fight despite being severely burned in his cockpit. He is buried at Saint John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Warsaw, Virginia, his headstone marked with the wings of a command pilot. Project: 219913
