Douglas A-1 Skyraider in Loose Formation at Sunset, Photographed over the Wing of an Accompanying Aircraft, Southeast Asia, Vietnam War Era
A Douglas A-1 Skyraider holds loose formation off the camera aircraft's wing at sunset over a Southeast Asian coast. Exhaust smoke streams back from the cowling of its Wright R-3350 radial, external tanks and stores hang from the pylons, and the fin-top anti-collision light is already burning. The photographing aircraft's own sunlit wing, with the edge of its national insignia star, fills the lower corner. The pronounced pink cast is dye fading in the original transparency, a common condition in color film of this period, and has been left uncorrected in this copy. Project: 219827
