Aviator's Quarters with Skyraider Photographs, SANDY Patch and Personal Effects, Vietnam War Era
The room of an American aviator during the Vietnam War. A navigation chart and a pinboard of Skyraider snapshots share the wall with a poster of an A-1 named THE PROUD AMERICAN and three cloth patches, the central one lettered SANDY - the callsign of Skyraider pilots who escorted rescue helicopters to downed airmen. Opposite stands the near-universal purchase of the American serviceman in Asia: a Japanese reel-to-reel tape deck and stereo headphones bought duty-free through the base exchange. Books, cigarettes and a crayon drawing from home complete the picture of life between missions. Project: 219827
