SPAD, SANDY and FIREFLY Callsign Tabs Above a Poster of A-1 Skyraider 'The Proud American'

Three cloth tabs pinned above a poster of an A-1 Skyraider record the whole identity of a squadron. SPAD was the aircrew's nickname for the Skyraider itself - a jibe at flying a piston-engined machine in the jet age. SANDY was the callsign of the A-1s that escorted rescue helicopters in to recover downed airmen. FIREFLY was the callsign for their night sorties against traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The poster below shows the cowl of an A-1 named THE PROUD AMERICAN, with a second Skyraider taxiing on pierced steel planking beyond. Project: 219827
