Citation accompanying the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded to First Lieutenant Larry L. Cavender for extraordinary heroism on 27 February 1970 near Ben Het, South Vietnam. Leading a flight of two A-1H Skyraiders, Cavender made repeated low-level passes under heavy enemy fire to protect a besieged reconnaissance team after two rescue helicopters had already been shot down, helping hold off hostile forces until the team could be extracted.
