American Serviceman Assists Julius Streicher into Overcoat Following Capture, May 1945
An American soldier assists Julius Streicher, former Nazi Gauleiter of Franconia and publisher of the virulently antisemitic newspaper Der Sturmer, into an overcoat shortly after his capture in May 1945. Streicher had fled in disguise into the Bavarian-Austrian Alps but was recognized and apprehended by American forces. He was later tried at Nuremberg for crimes against humanity and executed in October 1946. Project: 218668
