Julius Streicher Escorted by American Soldiers in the Bavarian Alps, May 1945
Julius Streicher, former Gauleiter of Franconia and publisher of the antisemitic newspaper Der Sturmer, is escorted by American soldiers in the Alpine borderlands of Bavaria and Austria following his capture in May 1945. Streicher had fled into the mountains under a false identity but was identified and taken prisoner in the final weeks of the war in Europe. He was tried and convicted at Nuremberg and executed in 1946. Project: 218668
