Bomb Splash in Coastal Waters, Southwest Pacific Theater
A U.S. Army Air Forces strike photograph captures the instant a bomb explodes in coastal waters of the Southwest Pacific, sending a towering column of spray into the tropical sky. Photographs like this one were taken by aircrews of the Fifth Air Force, including the 312th Bombardment Group, to document attacks on Japanese shipping and shore installations during the New Guinea and New Britain campaigns of 1943.
