This photograph shows the ruined Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall shortly after the atomic bombing of August 6, 1945. Located almost directly beneath the bomb's hypocenter, its steel dome frame and exterior walls remarkably survived the blast while the interior was completely gutted. Preserved in this condition, the building is known today as the Atomic Bomb Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and enduring symbol of peace. Project: 218248
