Street View of Ruined District with Torii Gate and Lone Pedestrian, Hiroshima, Japan, Post-Atomic Bombing
This photograph captures a devastated street in Hiroshima following the atomic bombing of August 6, 1945. A distant torii gate marks the entrance to a Shinto shrine amid the surrounding ruins, while a single figure walks alone down the cleared roadway. The concrete water cistern in the foreground, part of the city's wartime firefighting infrastructure, proved tragically inadequate against the scale of destruction the bomb unleashed. Project: 218248
