Capture and Identification of Julius Streicher by American Forces, May 1945
An American officer examines the clothing of a disheveled, elderly prisoner in this 1945 photograph, identified as Julius Streicher, the vitriolic Nazi propagandist and publisher of Der Sturmer. Streicher was apprehended by American troops near the Austrian-German border in the final days of World War II and later stood trial at Nuremberg, where he was convicted of crimes against humanity and executed in 1946.
