Captured Nazi Official (Likely Julius Streicher) Under Guard by 101st Airborne Division Personnel, May 1945
This photograph, from a 101st Airborne Division wartime album, depicts a captured senior Nazi official under American guard in the closing days of World War II in Europe. The subject's identification as Julius Streicher, the notorious Gauleiter of Franconia and publisher of the antisemitic newspaper Der Stürmer, aligns with the historical record of his capture by 101st Airborne paratroopers near Waidring, Austria, on May 23, 1945. Streicher was subsequently tried and convicted at the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal.
