The Don Englebreston Collection
Darkened Interior with Assorted Food Tins and Jars on a Table, Backlit Window at Left
A table of canned food and jars emerges from an otherwise black interior, lit only by a streaked window that looks out on flat, sunlit open ground. The photographer exposed for nothing in particular and lost the room entirely — a common outcome when shooting indoors on daylight color slide film. What survives is a small inventory of tins, a glass jar, an open paper sack, and a bunched sheet of plastic: the accumulated food stores of someone living in temporary quarters. Associated with the collection's Vietnam-era material, though nothing visible in the frame confirms the location. Project: 219970
