Canada Geese on the Bank of a Wooded Estate Lake at Dusk

Canada Geese on the Bank of a Wooded Estate Lake at Dusk

Canada geese loaf and graze on the mown bank of a wooded lake in the last usable light of the day. One bird stands alert in profile, its white chinstrap catching the dim light, while two others feed with necks bent to the turf. Introduced to European estate lakes as ornamental waterfowl and long since naturalized, Canada geese of this era were tame enough to ignore a photographer at close range. The deep blue cast and collapsed shadows are the signature of daylight color slide film pushed past its limits at dusk. Project: 219970
