Douglas A-1 Skyraider with Shark-Mouth Nose Art Banking in a Fully Loaded Configuration, Underside View (Banner Working Scan)
A shark-mouthed Douglas A-1 Skyraider banks hard, showing an underside crowded with rocket pods, bombs, fire-bomb canisters and drop tanks. That load, together with hours of endurance, is why the piston-engined Skyraider outlasted faster jets in Southeast Asia: flying as SANDY, it could stay over a downed airman until helicopters arrived, and it flew close air support for MACV-SOG reconnaissance teams operating in Laos and Cambodia. This high-resolution scan was gathered as source material for a Special Operations Association Reunion banner. Project: 219860
