Two Douglas A-1 Skyraiders, tail codes TT 555 and TT 076, cruise in echelon over a Southeast Asian river with karst ridges beyond. Flying under the callsign SANDY, Skyraider crews led combat-search-and-rescue efforts for downed aircrew, orbiting for hours, suppressing ground fire and shepherding rescue helicopters onto survivors. The same aircraft flew close air support for MACV-SOG teams operating across the Laotian and Cambodian borders.
