Hazy Aerial Oblique over Forested Mountain Terrain, Vietnam, 35mm Colour Slide (Series No. 094)
A hazy aerial view of forested mountain terrain in Vietnam, photographed handheld from an aircraft - a metal skid or strut is visible at the right edge of the frame. From a numbered slide series in the Joe Parnar collection; Parnar served as a medic with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam Studies and Observations Group at Kontum. Ground of this kind - unbroken triple-canopy jungle broken only by occasional grass-covered ridge shoulders - was the environment into which SOG reconnaissance teams were inserted by helicopter, and photographs taken from the air on the way in or out were often a team's only record of the country they walked. The transparency has faded and shifted toward blue with age. Project: 219840
