Two spreads from the briefing notebook kept by Captain Vaughn Bobby Ross, a UH-1 pilot with the 57th Assault Helicopter Company supporting MACV-SOG's Command and Control Central. Before each day's flying he recorded the survival letters and radio frequencies, the recon teams already on the ground with their target boxes, strengths and last known coordinates, the operations scheduled for that day, and the Covey forward air controller call signs. The lower spread is dated 8 December 1969. Notebooks like this one are among the few contemporary written records of missions that were, at the time, officially deniable. Project: 219835
