A Douglas A-1 Skyraider taxies across a wide concrete apron with its outer wing panels folded vertically upward. The folding wing was inherited directly from the aircraft's origins as a carrier-based U.S. Navy attack aircraft, the panels hinging outboard of the main landing gear to reduce span for deck and hangar handling; the mechanism was retained on the airframes transferred to the U.S. Air Force for service in Southeast Asia, where it remained useful on congested ramps. The inboard center section stays horizontal, carrying the pylons and the main wheels, and the aircraft's nose-high tailwheel stance is clearly shown. Low hangars, a checkerboard-marked structure and a long range of hazy mountains close the horizon. The aircraft is backlit and too small in frame for any tail code or serial to be read.
