Aircrew and Ground Personnel Sharing Champagne on a Wet Apron before a Base Fire Station after a Milestone-Mission Hosing, Southeast Asia, Vietnam War Period
Aircrew and ground personnel gather on a flooded apron in front of a base fire station, where a bottle of champagne is being opened to mark the completion of a milestone or final combat mission. The drenched pilot at right, still in his soaked flight suit, holds the bottle; the red crash trucks in the bays behind explain the hose used to soak him moments earlier. At left, an officer in a sage green flight suit and blue neck scarf wears a name tape reading WILLIAMS, a name also recorded elsewhere in this collection. A man in leaf-pattern camouflage fatigues holds a paper cup at center right. Base infrastructure is well documented: corrugated metal buildings, open equipment bays, an elevated steel water tank and an antenna mast. Photographed in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
