Made from an upper floor of a Waikiki hotel looking seaward into the late sun, this exposure shows the engineered Waikiki shoreline of Oahu with its stone groins and detached breakwaters, the fringe of coconut palms behind the beach, and hotel towers standing in silhouette. A large parking lot at center glitters with the windshields of parked cars. On the far horizon a mountain mass, most plausibly the Waianae Range, sits in haze beyond the sun's reflection path. Shot directly into the light, the frame carries heavy flare, a strong warm cast and coarse grain. It is a civilian travel photograph from the same Hawaiian trip as other slides in this sequence, filed with Vietnam-era aviation material; Hawaii was the principal leave and transit point for personnel moving to and from Southeast Asia.
