In-Flight Cockpit View of a Coastline beneath a Rain Squall, Vietnam War Era

A pilot's-eye view along a Vietnamese coastline, photographed through the windscreen beneath a heavy monsoon cloud base. The cockpit coaming and the drum-shaped gunsight head sit in silhouette across the bottom of the frame, while a long straight beach separates the narrow coastal plain from a hazy sea. Weather like this shaped the air war as much as the enemy did: low cloud, rain shafts and haze routinely cancelled strikes and made visual navigation over featureless terrain a matter of following the coast.
