This citation accompanies the Distinguished Flying Cross (First Oak Leaf Cluster) awarded to 1st Lt. Donald L. Engebretsen for heroism on 5 January 1970. Flying an A-1H Skyraider in Southeast Asia, Engebretsen pressed repeated low-altitude attacks against enemy forces surrounding a reconnaissance team, allowing the team to be safely evacuated by helicopter under fire.
