Douglas A-1 Skyraider Taxiing at Airshow, 3-4 May 2019 Event
A preserved Douglas A-1 Skyraider taxis at a warbird airshow, its Southeast Asia camouflage scheme evoking the aircraft's Vietnam War service. Rugged and heavily armed, the A-1 flew ground-attack and rescue escort missions -- earning aircrews flying it the radio callsign 'Sandy' -- long after piston-engine fighters had been retired by most other air arms. This example survives today as a flying tribute to the pilots and maintainers who kept the Skyraider in the fight over Southeast Asia. Project: 219252
