Two Douglas A-1 Skyraiders rest wings-folded on the ramp at the Museum of Aviation. Developed as a Navy carrier-based attack aircraft and flown extensively by the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War in the ground-attack and search-and-rescue escort ('Sandy') role, the Skyraider's distinctive gull-like folding wings allowed for compact storage aboard aircraft carriers and in crowded hangar space.
