This citation accompanies the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded to First Lieutenant Edward L. Homan, USAF, for heroism displayed on 6 October 1969. Flying an A-1 Skyraider as part of a Tactical Fighter unit in Southeast Asia, Homan provided close-in covering fire during a Search and Rescue mission after two transport helicopters were shot down in hostile territory, helping protect the surviving crew and passengers until they could be recovered.
