An April 1, 1970 Air Force Times clipping recounting how Capt. Laurence C. Johnson survived being accidentally pulled from a C-130 Hercules when his parachute deployed prematurely over hostile territory in Southeast Asia. Injured and evading enemy search parties through the night, Johnson was spotted by an A-1 Skyraider and lifted out by a Jolly Green Giant helicopter crew, making this newsprint account a vivid record of the search-and-rescue teamwork that defined USAF combat operations in Vietnam.
