A-1 Skyraider with Ground Crew and Pilots on Flight Line, South Vietnam
Four airmen gather near the nose of an A-1 Skyraider on a revetted flight line in South Vietnam. Though originally designed in the 1940s, the rugged, heavily armed Skyraider became indispensable during the Vietnam War, flying close air support and Sandy rescue escort missions long after jet aircraft had entered service, prized for its ability to absorb battle damage and loiter over the battlefield.
