This official citation accompanies the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded to Captain Robert H. Karre, USAF, for heroism on 27 June 1969. Flying an A-1H Skyraider, Karre led a two-plane flight scrambled to rescue a surrounded reconnaissance patrol near Ben Het Special Forces Camp, flying fifteen low-level attack passes through intense antiaircraft fire to break the enemy assault and save friendly forces from being overrun.
