The Snapshots in Time Collection
American Red Cross Exhibit, Allied War Exposition, Cincinnati Music Hall, 1918
The American Red Cross exhibit at the 1918 Allied War Exposition in Cincinnati's Music Hall showcased the extensive volunteer relief work carried out on the home front during World War I. Displays included mock canteen and restaurant stations, surgical dressing and sewing production, knitted garments for soldiers, and a field tent illustrating camp life. Local chapters supplied millions of dressings, garments, and comfort items to American and Allied troops overseas, work largely carried out by women volunteers whose contributions this exhibit was designed to honor and publicize.
