Soldiers of F Company, a Pomona, California National Guard unit, kneel in a coordinated signal drill under Sergeant M.E. Nichols during the 1937 Fourth Army maneuvers at Camp Merriam near San Luis Obispo. Some 56,000 National Guardsmen, regulars, and reservists took part in the exercise, one of the largest peacetime troop concentrations on the West Coast before World War II. Project: 218639
