Mounted in a wartime scrapbook, these two aerial photographs -- labeled simply 'Wewak' -- document a strike against the major Japanese base complex at Wewak, New Guinea, captured by an aircrew of the 312th Bomb Group. Flying low-level attack missions in A-20 Havoc and A-26 Invader bombers, the 312th, part of the Fifth Air Force, played a key role in neutralizing Japanese air power in New Guinea during 1943-1944, helping to open the way for the Allied advance along New Guinea's northern coast.
