Captured by a strike camera aboard a 312th Bomb Group B-25 Mitchell, this photograph shows parachute-retarded fragmentation bombs descending toward a ground target. These small "parafrag" bombs, deployed with parachutes to slow their fall, allowed low-flying attack aircraft to strike airfields, troop positions, and supply areas at treetop height while escaping their own bomb fragments, a hallmark tactic of Fifth Air Force operations in the Southwest Pacific.
