This aerial photograph shows a rural Filipino barrio on Luzon, its traditional stilt-built houses interspersed with lots where structures have been reduced to bare support posts. Images like this, captured during 312th Bomb Group reconnaissance flights in 1945, document both the vernacular architecture of Philippine villages and the toll that combat operations took on civilian communities during the campaign to liberate northern Luzon from Japanese occupation.
