This photograph documents the crash of aircraft 'B-11', flown by Lieutenant (junior grade) W.O. Green, aboard the escort carrier USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) on February 27, 1945. The fighter's wing lies crumpled against the ship's island structure while crewmen, some wearing protective flash hoods, begin the work of clearing the wreckage.
