This caption card, dated February 27, 1945, is the reverse of an official U.S. Navy photograph taken aboard the escort carrier USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80). It records the crash of aircraft 'B-11', flown by Lieutenant (junior grade) W.O. Green - identifying the same tail-coded aircraft shown in the companion photograph. Deck crashes and landing mishaps were a persistent hazard of carrier operations, especially aboard the compact decks of escort carriers. Project: 218490
