Low-Level Parafrag Bombing Attack on Japanese Airfield by B-25 Mitchell Bombers, WWII Pacific Theater
A U.S. Army Air Forces low-level strike on a Japanese airfield in the Pacific, captured in the midst of a parachute-fragmentation bombing attack. Small parachutes carrying delayed-fuse fragmentation bombs descend over the airstrip as B-25 Mitchell bombers sweep past at treetop height - one visibly trailing smoke from battle damage. This tactic, pioneered by Fifth Air Force units, allowed attacking bombers to strike heavily defended airfields while minimizing risk from their own bomb blasts. Project: 218478
