The Boeing B-47E Stratojet Medium Bomber in Flight
The Boeing B-47 Stratojet was America's first swept-wing, multi-engine jet bomber and a cornerstone of Strategic Air Command's nuclear deterrent force through the 1950s and into the 1960s. Powered by six General Electric J47 turbojet engines mounted in underwing pods, the B-47E variant could fly at high subsonic speeds and altitudes that outpaced contemporary piston-engine interceptors. Nearly 2,000 Stratojets were built, and the type's swept-wing design directly influenced the later B-52 Stratofortress and even commercial jetliners such as the Boeing 707. Project: 218474
