Republic F-84 Thunderjet, Front Three-Quarter View, U.S. Air Force Ramp

This photograph shows a Republic F-84 Thunderjet, one of the U.S. Air Force's first-generation straight-wing jet fighters, distinguished by its bullet-shaped wingtip fuel tanks and nose-mounted air intake. Entering service in the late 1940s, the F-84 served extensively as a fighter-bomber during the Korean War, providing close air support and long-range escort for bomber formations. Its rugged construction and heavy ordnance capacity made it a mainstay of early Cold War tactical air power. Project: 218470
