Traditional Bamboo Suspension Footbridge Across a River, China-Burma Border Region, World War II Era
A traditional bamboo suspension bridge spans a mountain river in the China-Burma border region, photographed during World War II. Such vernacular structures, built entirely of local bamboo and rope, were vital links for villages along the routes supporting the Burma Road and Ledo Road, arteries that sustained Allied forces fighting in the China-Burma-India Theater.
