This fragment of a WWII silk escape and evasion map depicts the Sea of Japan region, spanning eastern Siberia, Korea, and northern Japan. Printed on silk for durability and silence, such maps were carried by American aircrew, including members of the 345th Bomber Group, as emergency navigation aids in the event they were shot down over hostile or remote territory in the Pacific theater.
