This 1905 military commission, personally signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, appoints Carl L. Stone as First Lieutenant in the Philippine Scouts. Established under an 1901 Act of Congress in the wake of the Spanish-American and Philippine-American Wars, the Philippine Scouts were a distinctive U.S. Army organization of Filipino enlisted soldiers commanded by American officers.
