This 1944 newspaper clipping, preserved in a wartime scrapbook, shows pilots of Marine Fighter Squadron VMF-112, the storied 'Wolf Pack.' The unit's original pilots had earned fame flying Grumman F4F Wildcats over Guadalcanal in 1942-43; by the time of this photograph, a new generation of replacement pilots, led by veteran commander Major Herman 'Hap' Hansen, Jr., was completing training to carry on the squadron's legacy in the gull-winged Vought F4U Corsair.
