Wartime Identification Documents of Edward Potter McAleer - Naval Reserve Enlistment, Naval Aviation Certification, Selective Service Registration, and Tobacco Ration Card

Original wartime documents chronicle the military journey of Edward Potter McAleer, from his Selective Service registration in Bakersfield, California in June 1942, through his enlistment as a Naval Aviation Cadet in the V-5 program later that year, his completion of swimming tests at the Naval Air Training Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, and his eventual service as a First Lieutenant at the Marine Corps Schools in Quantico, Virginia. These small paper artifacts, easily overlooked, together tell the story of one man's path into naval aviation during World War II. Project: 218184
