Twin-Engine Bomber on the Ramp, Ie Shima, 345th Bombardment Group
A twin-engine Army Air Forces bomber, consistent with a B-25 Mitchell of the 345th Bombardment Group, sits parked on the ramp at Ie Shima, part of a commemorative collection documenting the group's operations in the final months of WWII. Known as the 'Air Apaches,' the 345th flew low-level strikes against Japanese shipping and installations from bases in the Ryukyu Islands as Allied forces closed in on the Japanese home islands.
