This photograph documents the Japanese surrender envoy delegation upon their arrival at Ie Shima airfield, Okinawa, on August 19, 1945. Traveling aboard aircraft specially marked with green crosses under Allied safe-conduct terms, the envoys transferred here to U.S. transport planes bound for Manila, where they received the formal terms ending World War II in the Pacific.
