Goodyear Non-Rigid Airship in Flight over Roadside Farmland
A Goodyear airship drifts over flat farmland, caught from the shoulder of a highway with the photographer's own hood and windshield wiper in the bottom of the frame. The silver envelope carries the GOODYEAR wordmark and the company's winged-foot trademark; a small enclosed control car hangs below the bow and cruciform fins steer from the stern. Goodyear flew these helium-filled publicity ships at only a few hundred feet, low and slow and impossible to ignore. The Armco barrier, hedgerow field boundary, and tri-axle flatbed trailer point to a Western European roadside, most likely in the 1960s or 1970s. Project: 219970
